Novell launches advanced User Experience form for Global Login to Novell.com

Novell.com's global authentication destination - Novell Login - consumed a multi-page process - resulting in the necessary credentials to utilize secure areas of Novell.com. To users, Novell Login was functional - though it provided confusing navigation/workflow, and underperformed speed-wise. Technically, it's managed on a successful platform of Novell products, including iChain and eDirectory.

Given the sites valuable underpinnings, the obvious technical shortcoming was its shackles to HTML. From a management perspective, the business owners were unable to manage the interface or content without the involvment of IT resources - a problem that ultimately led to the development of a Flash-based model.

The new application is an embedded Flash MX component that sits within Novell's iChain authentication page - and is managed by supporting XML files that render the user experience interface and content. Novell's e-Marketing team recaptured the ability to provide users with a simple intuitive interface, as well as comprehensive management of the site

Macromedia - Rich Internet Application Starter Kit

Early in the release of the MX family of products, Macromedia engaged LabNY to help define a 'kit' that IT managers could use as a resource to learn the value of leveraging Flash within their infrastructural environment. This community of IT professionals were not familiar with - or aware of - the levels of interactivity the Macromedia suite of products could provide. Further, they were not aware that all of this could be accomplished today - utilizing development and integration standards already in play within their organization.

So, the RIA Starter Kit was born. The premise of this kit is a fictitious project that was actually carried out at Macromedia - and then documented for this community to review. It contains a voluminous amount of real-world documentation - as well as the Flash-based application that resulted from the project.
